The journey to achieving your black belt is a long and challenging one, a journey which usually takes between six to eight years. Some Muay Thai schools go by a ranking system using different coloured shorts here at Legends MMA we go by the belt ranking system. Just like how Anderson Silva, UFC Champion, Wanderlei Silva, Former UFC Champion and Mauricio Shogun Rua, Former UFC Champion, all have black BELTS in Muay Thai kickboxing.

We at Legends MMA follow the Brazilian Belt Ranking System Style which maintains that a child or youth under the age of 15 is not yet mature enough to have achieved their full potential both physically and mentally within the art.

The highest level that a youth can get is a red belt. Once a youth masters their red belt level they will then enter the adult belt ranking system at the age of 15 and will then be able to achieve their goal of obtaining a black belt.

Several martial art schools have children getting their black belts at ages 9 to 11. To me this is very disturbing because it`s more of a money grab for that particular school to satisfy the parents and make them pay for a belt ranking system that is not accurate or appropriate for their child as they are too young.

Lastly, unlike other martial art schools, where their students are tested in groups and not directly by the Sensei, here at Legends MMA the belt system grading is tested on a one on one basis directly with Sensei Billy and the parents or guardians of that child are welcome and encouraged to attend this wonderful achievement.
